Bothy

An outbuilding to provide external shelter and complete the definition of two external courtyard gardens as phase two works for an existing Suffolk client.  The commission was to replace an existing garage, re-examining its scale and position and developing harmony with the recently renovated home.

The compact structure uses simple honest detailing and combines utility storage with an adjoining north-facing covered seating area to extend family life, protect against the weather and enhance the relationship with the new garden landscape.

Playfully integrating the Suffolk agricultural vernacular with the colourful contemporary aesthetic of the dwelling, the new outbuilding is a sympathetic addition which frames and connects the site sensitively.
